Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom is Chadwick Boseman’s last film and he doesn’t displease you. He does a phenomenal job as a cornet player in Ma Rainey’s band played by Viola Davis who does a phenomenal job as well. The two of these do a fine job acting as well as the rest of the actors in the movie including Taylour Page, Glynn Turman and Colman Domingo. A very well done movie. I wish that it had a little more substance to it. Maybe some backstory on Ma Rainey would have been much better but the acting does help to pull the movie through. It’s a really good movie based on a true story of a blues singer in the early nineteen hundreds and her take of what it was like for black singers of that day and what they had to go through living in a white man’s world. Again the acting of Viola Davis and Chadwick Boseman really helps the movie. Running time is 1 hour and 34 minutes.
